Focused Attention

Aug 12, 2022

Focusing your attention on one thing in this day and age is extremely challenging. Can I get an AMEN?

Focus = draw your attention near and looking at one thing/point

We have an old pinball machine that’s been restored from its original life in the 1970’s and it’s a visual as the topic of FOCUS for this month’s theme.

For those of my era it was our form of entertainment before electronic games (Atari – LOL). For those of a younger generation find a pinball machine image on Google.

What do the pinball machine and FOCUS have in common? NOTHING. They are the extreme opposites.

I feel like the steel ball in the pinball machine that’s slung out of the starting gate and flung into chaos bouncing from side to side from start to finish. It relates perfectly to a day in the life of most women as we shoot out of bed and go from thing to the next for the entire day with most of our time being bounced from one thing to another. Ugh!

It is a challenge to focus as we bounce from one task to the next and several in-between. Think of this situation and see if you can relate – I say to myself, “I need to go to the basement to grab a birthday card.” On your way to the basement I pick up the clothes hangers I placed on the railing to bring downstair when I went the next time, dropping them in the laundry room I notice the load of clothes is ready to be put in the dryer, while putting them in with a dryer sheet I realize the box is empty so I quickly grab a sticky note to write a reminder to buy dryer sheets, now that the dryer is loaded I climb upstairs only to remember the birthday card! Back to the basement I go.

Our days can be like a steel ball in a pinball machine, springing from one thing to another. When we catch ourselves bouncing from one thing to the next, we need to say, “STOP. Focus.”

No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, Philippians 3:13 NLT

Focusing on one thing – God and the future with him for eternity – Glory be to God!

Keeping our eyes focused on God and his goodness allows us to move forward to enjoy what each day brings, one task at a time.

Focusing our attention on what God has done for us and how we have been saved from our past and loved by him like we are the only one. Amen.
