How do I live, what would Jesus do, the chosen

How Did Jesus Live?

Jan 08, 2022

After watching  The Chosen it was a great eye-opening time to reflect on how Jesus lived here on earth. It shows the interaction of day-to-day living with the twelve disciples and how issues arose like where would they get more lentils to feed the group of disciples, how physically exhausted Jesus was after performing miracles, and how calm he stayed when bickering happened amongst the disciples. Go watch it for yourself and see.

A phrase came to mind as I finished the eighth episode, how did Jesus live? It’s like the common one used in the 1990’s, WWJD (What Would Jesus Do?)

How did Jesus live?

Every day he focused on God, living in simple purpose, and making it to the end of each day with peace and contentment as he walked around engaging with humans before he gave himself up so freely.

How did Jesus live?

He focused on God by starting each day renewing himself with personal, quiet time by seeking the Father early in the morning to interact with Him and intercede for others.

Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house, and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. Mark 1: 35 NIV

Put on your new nature and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him. Colossians 3:10 NLT

How did Jesus live?

Look closer at Colossians 3:10 as it gives an answer to the question, how did Jesus live?

He was renewed as he learned to know the Creator AND he became like him.

This can happen for us too. Learning to know our Creator is the key to give us a life full of peace, contentment, and direction.

How can we make this happen? I’ll be like a counselor and answer the question by asking another question.

How did Jesus live? With:

  1. Patience – being willing to know it takes time for good things to be attained.
  2. Practice – repetition, good habits, and determination to meet goals.
  3. Concentration – stilling the mind so quiet comes and this will allow focus.
  4. Continued Review – periodically evaluating the process to strive for consistent improvements and applauding growth and accomplishments.

In episodes 7 and 8 of The Chosen, Season 2, Jesus is rehearsing for a sermon he will give a crowd. I’ve never thought of Jesus needing to practice what he would say yet being human, he may have had the same feelings we do when speaking in front of a lot of people. It sure helped me think how Jesus lived each day, each event, each occurrence, each interaction.

How do we live like Jesus did?

It is a series of days strung together where we get to practice and concentrate on learning more about our Creator, being patient with ourselves to establish solid habits to work on, and then be willing to review ourselves constructively to see where we’ve grown and where more work is needed.

It’s not one and you’re done! This journey of life is one day at a time allowing God to be alongside holding our hand until we reach the finish line. It’s a lifelong process and one that needs to be enjoyed along the way – living each day how Jesus would.
