Never Stop Praying

Jun 01, 2023

As I sit in my quiet time with God, I try to keep my thoughts from racing, I try to stay calm however my mind is like the movie trailer at the theater. It goes from one captivating scene to the next, flashing from subject to another, some related to each other, and others have nothing to do with anything.

The movie caption could read – “New Daily Release – Beware”! This is because you never can tell what will cross my thoughts. Those thoughts in my quiet time can range from people who need prayer, my to-do list, what the weather is doing, plans for supper, or a verse I just read in the Bible. All these jumbled thoughts are like a 3D movie that is ready to jump out at you and give you a scare.

How do you tame wild, runaway thoughts?

We pull down every proud obstacle that is raised against the knowledge of God; we take every thought captive and make it obey Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:5 GNT

Years ago, I took the advice of many wiser women as they shared that I needed to actively take my thoughts captive and turn them over to God.

What does it look like to “turn them over” OR “making them obey”?

PRAY

Prayer is the focus when my thoughts don’t settle down.  PRAY without ceasing.

“Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 NLT

HOW do we take our thought to PRAYER?

  1. Capture it
  2. Restrict it
  3. Drag it to its death by prayer

It was a discipline of catching yourself in the negative worry thoughts, then capturing each one by converting it to prayer.

We must focus on entrapping the negative, spiraling thoughts, and turning them over to God.

Philippians 4:6 NLT Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need and thank him for all he has done.

WHY Pray?

  1. Builds our relationship with God. He wants to HEAR our prayers.
    •  ...for your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask him! Matthew 6: 8 NLT
  2. It quiets our thoughts, emotions, and release tension.
    • Listen to my voice in the morning, Lord. Each morning I bring my requests to you and wait expectantly. Psalm 5:3 NLT
  3. It’s a weapon against evil.
    • The eyes of the Lord watch over those who do right, and his ears are open to their prayers. But the Lord turns his face against those who do evil. 1 Peter 3:12 NLT

Actively praying will keep a positive outlook in your day when it could be headed for disaster. Prayer let’s us have more peace and allows us to rest our heads soundly to have a sweet sleep each night.

When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet. Proverbs 3:24 NIV

Give it to God.
