Unity with God

May 01, 2022

Being one with God is the ONLY thing that keeps me sane because God is good, merciful, powerful, loving, joy, and peace, to mention just a few attributes.

This can be described as unity with God. The word unity is my theme this month.

Unity is an interesting subject as I’ve found myself stumbling over it because it’s simple yet hard to define. For most of us the basic definition without looking it up in the dictionary would be – working together, not divided.

Let’s look at how it’s defined in the Webster’s 1828 Dictionary.

Unity = State of being one; oneness. A thing undivided but separate from every other thing.

Unity of Spirit = the oneness which subsists between Christ and his saints, by which the same spirit dwells in both, and both have the same disposition and aims; and it is the oneness of Christians among themselves, united under the same head, having the same spirit dwelling in them, and possessing the same graces, faith, love, hope.

I could stop right now. Period. The end.

However, I do have additional thoughts on unity, and I believe you will relate.

Staying in unity with God can be a daily challenge and we need to take it seriously. If we don’t, the opposite of unity is guaranteed – division, conflict, dispute, separation, strife, controversy, disharmony, warfare – it goes on and on so I must STOP. You get the idea, right?

The only way I’ve been successful at staying in unity with God is becoming one with Him by giving Him my firsts every single day. This is challenging work and takes discipline. I believe in you and know you have it in you to do the same. Let’s do it together and think through the things we need to do to stay connected with God.

Three Tips to Stay in Unity with God:

  1. Wake Up Early
  2. Give God Fifteen
  3. Stay Connected through the Day

Today, we’re going to look at each of these briefly, if you want more details on this subject you can learn more in my course Anchor Your Day with God https://www.suelhamilton.com/anchor-your-day-digital-course-1 to dig into these tips and much more. The course focuses on how to keep your day solidly anchored in God so you can have peace and contentment on a consistent basis.

  1. Wake Up Early – Rising before dawn and taking advantage of the quietness will give you a good anchor to start your day.
    1.  Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house, and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. Mark 1:35 NIV
  2. Give God Fifteen – Raising your voice to God so He can hear your requests each day builds a relationship with Him.
    1.  Listen to my voice in the morning, Lord. Each morning I bring my requests to you and wait expectantly. Psalm 5:3 NLT
  3. Stay Connected through the Day – As the day progresses, we will hit frustrations and need to get refreshing. We can do this by praying. God hears us.
    1.  Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29: 12-13 NLT

When we keep doing these things, we will receive the unity with God and in turn it will produce the results of peace and contentment. Our goal is to have these good things throughout the entire day, which we know is unrealistic but if we can gain them for a portion of the day, we will have succeeded.

Most women I talk with want the same thing – peace, love, joy, and contentment with their day, knowing it will not be all rainbows all day but if it can be for a portion of the day – it’s a WIN! And if we don’t get these benefits in our day, we always will have tomorrow to try it again.

My encouragement to you is to keep trying. Find out what works for you and do it every day for at least 30 days, the old wise tale says you can form a new habit in 26 days if you do it consistently each day. Give it a shot, what can it hurt?

My prayer for you – Father God, I ask you to be with each person who is reading this today. Spark the fire in them to evaluate their relationship with you and how much time they give you each day. Nudge them to wake early to give you the quiet time that seems to stop when the sun rises. Let your Word come alive and keep them alert to keep seeking you to find the peace and contentment you so freely give to us when we seek you. We thank you and honor you Father God. In your name we pray, AMEN.
